Qualifications

Background Summary

I hold nationally-recognized certifications in both Strength and Conditioning and Distance Running. After struggling with weight and strength problems into my early adult life, I've lost weight and body fat, gained strength, improved my diet, become a strength and endurance athlete, active runner, and marathoner - taking 5 minutes off my 5K time and almost 40 minutes off my best marathon time. So I can easily relate to people who are not natural athletes or gifted runners.

My career as an engineer has instilled in me a healthy sense of skepticism, and the need to see cause and effect before adopting new training methods or nutritional strategies. I've taken university courses in exercise physiology and nutrition, and stay current with anecdotal news and scientific research in fitness, nutrition, and running, which I carefully investigate before recommending anything new to clients.

Finally, my experience as a personnel manager and technical presenter has made me a very effective listener and teacher, capable of presenting complex material in a straightforward and logical manner. This allows me to thoroughly understand my clients' needs and design concise training plans that are customized to their personal goals.
